PLUS: Christmas special is fast tracked internationally

Good news for Doctor Who fans who were less than impressed with the new multi-coloured Daleks:

"We're not going to lose the old Daleks," showrunner Steve Moffat said, according to The Sun. "We're keeping them. They're coming back."

The upcoming sixth season also will see more familiarity from the classic series when Neil Gaiman's "lost" script from Season 5 finally comes to fruition. Apparently, the episode was originally scheduled to be part of Smith's debut season but was pushed back a year due to its grand scope and the tight budget the series was operating on.

"Steven Moffat wrote me the letter telling me that they were out of money," Gaiman said. "Because I'd written a very expensive episode, they were bouncing me to Episode 3 of the new season."

In the outing, The Doctor and Amy (Karen Gillan) -- who also will be accompanied by Rory (Arthur Darvill) -– will encounter a character that was last seen in Patrick Troughton's swan song. Due to the move from Season 5 to Season 6, Gaiman had to make some minor re-writes so that he could include Rory in the episode now that he is a permanent companion inside the Tardis.

On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September Daleks from the last 40 years will be invading the National Space Centre. These iconic characters of ultimate evil will be on show, gliding around, even up stairs courtesy of the Dalek Builders Guild and Project Dalek. The Daleks will be joined by The Doctor and many of the iconic characters from the old and new series as the exterminating fun begins, with full size Daleks from every era of the famous TV show roaming free.

Hyde Fundraisers will be joining the Invasion on Saturday to celebrate 25 years of raising money for charity through costuming. The event will also include static displays, demonstrations, craft sessions and of course all visitors will be helping to raise money for Children in Need.

The second Adventure Game is called Blood of the Cybermen and is released on Saturday, 26 June.

To celebrate the launch, Glasgow's Pacific Quay staged a special event yesterday which featured some of the game's creators, questions from you... and the Cybermen!

The BBC will be posting a video of the highlights very soon, but until then, here's what happened when the Cybermen stormed the building!

A number of props from Doctor Who will go on sale next week.

The items available to buy at the Bonhams Entertainment Auction include the Tardis used in 2005 by Christopher Eccleston. It is expected to sell for between £8,000 and £12,000.

The oldest surviving Dalek, which appeared in a 1964 episode, is also among the lots and has an estimate of £2,000 to £3,000.

Elsewhere, a 5ft model of the Tardis is expected to reach between £300 and £400, while a Cyberman helmet from 1967 has a price tag of between £3,000 to £4,000.

The items will go on sale in London on June 23rd.

Developed in association with Doctor Who’s Executive Producer and show runner, Steven Moffat, Doctor Who Live promises the same excitement, adventure and suspense that viewers have come to expect from the TV programme and will feature specially filmed new video scenes.

Opening in wartime London and concluding in an epic onstage battle, audiences should expect the unexpected as the The Doctor’s arch-enemies the Daleks are joined by some of the best-loved and most terrifying monsters from the TV series including the Cybermen, Weeping Angels, Judoon and Oods to name but a few.

 With an out-of-this-world set, Doctor Who Live will feature special FX, optical illusions and spectacular pyrotechnics building to an epic finale. Specially edited video clips, drawn from the TV Programme will be shown on a massive screen and accompanied by the music of longtime Doctor Who composer Murray Gold. These iconic scores will be brought to life by a 16 piece orchestra live on stage.

The BBC has revealed that the first Doctor Who adventure game, available to download from the official site from 5 June, will be called “City Of The Daleks”, and will feature the Doctor and Amy venturing to Kaalann, the Dalek capital city.

“City Of The Daleks” is the first of four new adventures which take the form of downloadable computer games available for PC and Mac. The TARDIS materialises in 1963, and London is in ruins. The Daleks have seized control of time and the only chance of saving Earth lies in a desperate quest to Skaro, the Daleks’ home planet, before time catches up with Amy, the last survivor of the human race!

“City Of The Daleks” features the new breed of Daleks which premiered on television in Saturday’s “Victory of the Daleks”. Nicholas Briggs provides the voice of the Daleks, alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan who recreate their roles as the Doctor and Amy.

“This is quite a series opener,” says Phil Ford. “We destroy London even before the credits role – so you can only begin to imagine where we travel to from there. ‘City Of The Daleks’ is as big-budget as you can imagine: from London we head to Kaalann, the capital city of the Daleks, one constructed from pure anger and hate. And these new Daleks don’t like to be messed with, so players are about to enjoy a new interactive episode which is as heart-pulsing as anything you’ve seen before.”
