Being Human will return for a fourth series next year.

Series four will see the aftermath as the housemates return to their home in Barry Island. The series will also introduce some new faces.

The fourth series of Being Human has 8x60 minute episodes and has been commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning and Harry Lansdown, Acting Controller, BBC Three.

Being Human is written by Toby Whithouse (Torchwood, Doctor Who) and the fourth series will be produced by Philip Trethowan. Executive Producers are Toby Whithouse, Rob Pursey, Touchpaper Television, and Eleanor Moran, for BBC Cymru Wales.

Desperate to escape, Mitchell discovers that help is at hand – albeit from an unlikely and untrustworthy source.
Annie is heartbroken but stands by Mitchell and returns to purgatory in search of answers. She finds Lia but things are not as they seemed. This was never a game to Lia – this is revenge.
A guilt-stricken Mitchell tries to make amends but, as the revelations pile up, and with Nina in a critical state, George must decide whether he can stand by his best friend.
Erin Richards stars as Nancy, Aidan Turner as Mitchell, Lenora Crichlow as Annie, Lacey Turner as Lia, Sinead Keenan as Nina and Russell Tovey as George.

Nancy's investigation into the Box Tunnel massacre continues, and she is convinced that Mitchell is responsible – she just needs to find some proof. Annie too is determined that the killer must be caught, and offers her help every step of the way, unaware of the implications it might have.

McNair and Tom turn up on the doorstep of Honolulu Heights needing help, and decide to stay a few days until an injured McNair is better.

With four werewolves now under his roof and a full moon imminent, Mitchell is feeling edgy. He's terrified his end is nigh, and will go to any lengths to extract Herrick's secret from him.

Nancy is played by Erin Richards, Mitchell by Aidan Turner, Annie by Lenora Crichlow, McNair by Robson Green, Tom by Michael Socha and Herrick by Jason Watkins.

Being Human is getting Becoming Human. The web spin-off will be based in a college where a vampire named Adam (played by Craig Roberts) meets a beautiful werewolf called Christa (Leila Mimmack from Married, Single, Other). The two of them (plus another guy called Matt ) get caught up in some kind of mystery.

The nine-part series was created by Being Human main man Toby Whithouse, and features scripts from Being Human writers Brian Dooley, Jamie Mathieson and John Jackson. According to the BBC’s press release, the series will also be interactive, with “online audiences encouraged to interact with the story as it unfolds, with daily clues and materials posted on a new website linked to the Being Human blog.”

“Yes, because *you* demanded it, the world of Being Human is expanding!” says Mr Whithouse. “We’ve got a cracking story lined up, with some terrific new characters and all the thrills and chills you can manage. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.”

“The fans of Being Human are incredibly active online, so we wanted to give them something they could really get their teeth into,” adds BBC multiplatform drama commissioner Sarah Clay. “The Becoming Human online extension doesn’t just consist of nine episodes, the narrative extends beyond that with daily clues in the form of press cuttings, anonymous tips, CCTV footage, mobile phone clips…giving the online audience the chance to follow the mystery on the blog as it unfolds.”

Becoming Human is due to launch at www.bbc.co.uk/beinghuman midway through the third series of the parent show, which starts in the new year.

The creator of Being Human has dropped hints about the upcoming third series.

Following the news that Lacey Turner will appear in an episode of the show, Toby Whithouse told SFX that there is some "jaw-droppingly pant-wettingly exciting casting for a couple of guest characters".

Whithouse added that filming is currently underway and also revealed that a new creature will appear in the show.

"There are some new werewolves," he said. "There are some new vampires. And there's a something else. For years I've heard people saying to me, 'You should put a witch/zombie/demon/banshee/warlock/goblin/fairy/pixie/angel in your show'. 

"I think they've got Being Human mixed up with Dungeons and f**king Dragons. Anyway, I've always secretly planned to pop one of them into an episode and it finally happens in season three."

Whithouse hinted that the vampires have been doing something "secret and staggeringly cruel" to werewolves and teased: "Three have become four now, and in the next season they briefly become five."

He added: "As I might have said before, in season one the threat was supernatural. In season two, the threat was human. In season three, the threat comes from within."

The third season of Being Human is expected to air in January.

Fresh from a mind-boggling cameo where Terry Wogan ended up being a conduit for the men with sticks and rope last series, the powers-that-be behind Being Human have unveiled another well known TV star to appear on the show in the upcoming third season.

Following in Michelle Ryan’s footsteps by moving from the Slater family to sci-fi, EastEnders star Lacey Turner (aka Stacey Slater) will feature as a guest star in the first episode of the new series, in her first role since announcing she is leaving Albert Square.

Speaking about filming on the show – which began shooting its third season in Wales last week – she said: “It was fantastic working on Being Human, I had some great scenes with Aidan Turner, especially when his character Mitchell is facing up to some of the things he has done in the past. The cast and crew were really welcoming and I can’t wait to watch how the story comes together on screen when the series airs.”

As for what else we can expect from the new season, details are sparse so far. [MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD] We’re told that the gang have moved permanently – or as permanently as it gets for them – to Wales to try and find some normality after the dramatic climax of the second series (far be it from us to say whether a village in Wales is the best place to find that). However, their fresh start is marred by the loss of Annie (Lenora Crichlow), who manages to contact Mitchell in a desperate cry for help. Missing his friend and anxious to help her, Mitchell is mobilised into action – which is where the other Turner and a plot a smidgen reminscent to Supernatural comes in. Mitchell must enter purgatory to try and save Annie, with the help of a mysterious character called Lia (Lacey Turner), who helps him on his way.

Do you watch shows that are similar to Being Human, like True Blood?


"No, I don't. It's no reason really, I don't know why! It's not really my thing. I mean, not that I don't enjoy the genre, the supernatural genre or maybe even sci-fi, but maybe you just get enough of it when you're doing your own show and you're completely surrounded by it. And by proxy anyway you happen to run into a lot of these [shows]. You'll read a lot of articles about stuff, you'll read the Twilight books because someone has thrown them at you while you're hanging around set, or somebody is watching it on set, and you just dip and out. But I'm not an ardent viewer of any particular show at all, really."

What do you make of the show's success in America?

"That's been really cool. It really took us by surprise. We went over to do a lot of press for it last August - we did Comic-Con and we did TCAs and all these big press events - and that's when it really kind of hit home. We walked in to do a press conference at Comic-Con and there was 6,000 plus people. Granted, Doctor Who were on after us and they were all there for Doctor Who but they kind of knew who we were! So yeah, it's been a big hit over there and I signed with an agent, and all the producers I've met recently are all very aware of the show."

And they're making a local US version...

"Yeah, I think the Sci-Fi channel have brought the structure or the premise of the show from Toby Whithouse, the creator. I don't know really much about that, I don't know when they're going to start shooting it or whether they have. I heard a rumour that Mitchell might be a girl! I don't know. I wish them all the best, it's a cool little idea and it's not surprising that somebody has picked it up, but we don't know anything about it really. I kind of do hope it's different though, I hope it's not so like our show."
