LFCC - London Film and Comic Con, usually one of thee best line-up of guests and busiest convention in the UK. Busy it may have been, but apparently this year organisers Showmasters had a string of errors which led to people leaving very disappointed. This review here from
girlgeekery makes it sound all very disorganised and a bit like they were herding cattle:
London Comic and Film Convention, 2010, held at Earl’s Court. We went, we saw, we were severely disappointed.
For a major convention it was disorganised, information was limited, and the majority of the convention was made up of merchandise.
Okay, so merchandise has its place in these things, the seller’s tables raise an awful lot of money for the organisers, but there were only a handful of artists and a long trestle table arrangement of stars sitting on plastic chairs like veal in a window for hours on end.
The ‘stages’ where you could go for talks were partially enclosed spaces that didn’t mute the noise from the rabble outside. Birmingham, despite being small, was extremely useful with a separate hall for merchants to the artists and writers.
Queues weren’t queues so much as random clots of people, and during the photoshoots, your ticket wasn’t even matched up with the frame number – I left a friend at the collection table handing over a physical description of himself so the crew could recognise his photo and post it to the correct address.
Other than that, yeah, I had lots of fun. Can’t you tell?
Next year: San Diego or bust!
