Star Trek Comes To Louisville

On April 8, the Louisville Science Center announced that it will host Star Trek the Exhibition over the first five months of 2011. The announcement was made as part of a press conference called to not only make that announcement, but to also inform the public on other exhibits coming to the facility.

Attending the press conference, along with members of the Center's staff were Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, and the president of the Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Jim Wood.

Most media outlets strictly reported on the upcoming exhibits and the Center itself, but there is another story in there. It turns out that this particular stop for the traveling Star Trek exhibit is an experiment for both the center and the show. Exploration II Inc. who oversee the exhibit, is experimenting with a down-sized edition of the show for venues, like the Louisville Science Center, who do not have the necessary space for the the entire inventory of exhibits.

After the success of the recent Titanic exhibit there, it was decided to experiment with such smaller exhibits. If the Louisville show is successful, it will open the door for many other smaller institutions to host this exhibit in one form or another.
