iFanboy Reviews the Wonder Woman Pilot

iFanboy has managed to get their hands on the Wonder Woman pilot, and has a review up on their site.  Here are some excerpts:

As Wonder Woman/Diana Themyscira/Diana Prince, Adrianne Palicki was a revelation. I was already a big fan of hers from Friday Night Lights but here she takes center stage and pulls off what is an extremely difficult role. She’s tough, she’s charming, she’s sexy, she’s vulnerable, and she’s got a little bit of an angry edge to her when she’s Wonder Woman that adds just a dash of exciting unpredictability. This could have been a star making turn for Padlicki who certainly deserves one.

The Wonder Woman on this show is a badass who is not above choking dudes with her lasso (her favorite move) or throwing a piece of pipe through your throat if you won’t stop shooting at her. For a weekly television show, the action scenes were fairly well executed and at times quite thrilling. The whole final sequence where she storms Veronica Cale’s compound and decimates her ‘roided out super-soldier army is really fun to watch.

The first time we see Wonder Woman she is wearing the version of the costume that we’ve seen with the blue pants. The biggest surprise in the entire pilot? When she shows up to take on Veronica Cale’s goons for the final big action scene, she’s in the classic pants-less comic book costume. That costume only appeared briefly in the script where it hung in the back of her closet. There is a mention of a designer coming in to discuss a new costume so it would appear that this Wonder Woman has different costumes for different occasions. Whichever costume she's wearing they all really work on-screen.

Wonder Woman not going Ahead

The word has been given that NBC won't be picking up David E. Kelly's Wonder Woman . Apparently it has had   negative reactions to the initial script  and the costume The pilot starred Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) as the venerable superhero, but Kelly's version looked at the character through three different lenses (the hero, the woman, and the alter ego). The pilot also starred Tracie Thoms, Cary Elwes, and Elizabeth Hurley.

Two other NBC pilots were also reportedly rejected: A Mann's World, starring Don Johnson, and Metro from Stephen Gaghan, with Mann's being shopped to cable. I've always thought that Mann's sounded like a Bravo-type show, so it sounds like it may be finding a more compatible network.

'Wonder Woman' Will Have A New Costume

According to Wonder Woman TV, David E. Kelly's adaptation of the heroine will not be wearing her classic crime fighting attire and will instead be sporting her updated look from the comics released last year.
The re-design of the costume originally took place for issue #600, which introduced a whole new timeline and origin for the character. In addition to being a new look for a new world, the re-design drew some attention -- and in some cases, criticism -- which helped attract readers to the comic series.

Elizabeth Hurley & Tracie Thoms Join NBC's 'Wonder Woman'

Elizabeth Hurley has been cast for a potentially recurring role in David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman reboot for NBC starring Adrianne Palicki as the comic book heroine who, in the new version, is a successful corporate executive working to balance all of the elements in her complicated life.

Pending visa clearance, British actress Hurley will guest star in the pilot as villain Veronica Cale, the beautiful, highly educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy.

Tracie Thoms will play the regular role of Etta, Diana Themyscira (Palicki)'s always cheerful personal assistant.

Wonder Woman headed to TV with David E. Kelley

Wonder Woman is still heading to the screen, but instead of coming to a theater near you, its returning to television.

Warner Bros. Television is developing a modern-day reboot of the classic DC comic book heroine.  David E. Kelley is to potentially write and produce the superhero project: , the showrunner behind legal dramas such as “Ally McBeal,” "Boston Legal" and "The Practice."

In 2005, Warner Bros. announced Joss Whedon would write and direct the film adaptation. But Whedon said he never ended up being able to finish the draft, and two years later left the project (he's back in the superhero world, though, prepping "The Avengers" for a winter shoot).

"They just didn't like my take," Whedon said at the time. "It's pretty simple."

Warner Bros. had no comment.

Carter Praises New-Look Wonder Woman

Former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter has praised DC's new look for the character.

The iconic heroine has been redesigned bySuperman scribe J. Michael Straczynski for his run on Wonder Woman.

Carter told ABC News: "I think Wonder Woman has a mind of her own. And I think she was just kind of ready for something new.

"She's got an attitude and if this is the new thing that she wants to wear, well, by God, she's going to wear it. And I like that. And I hope that in the story someone mentions, 'Where's the old one?' And she says, 'Get over it!'"

The new costume design has received a mixed reception from fans, but DC co-publisher Dan DiDio has hinted that it is here to stay. "If you take a half step back is there enough of Wonder Woman [in the new costume]?" he told the New York Daily News.

"It really captures some many of the iconic imagery associated [with the] character, the tiara, the bracelets, the bustier and the belt. We're really hoping it sticks."

The new costume debuts this week in Wonder Woman #600.
